So the DmC demo came out, and for those of you who haven't heard, that's the reboot of the Devil May Cry series. Headed by Ninja Theory.
First, let the record state that I love the Devil May Cry series, and was pretty hyped up for this reboot. I was kinda sadden to see that we won't be seeing the classic white haired Dante that we all got to know and love.
The demo begins with a back story of Dante and him being attacked by demon controlled city, which moves him to a new dimension. Well, the fight system seems Devil May Cry-ish on the surface. As I begin to play through, it seemed more foreign then any DMC I've played in the past. It has the ranking aspect that you come to love from DMC, but something feels out of place. So, in this story line Dante is a half angel, half demon. This means he can wield angel weapons as well as demon. Which sounds Ok in theory, but when played it, doesn't quite make the jump. In combat there is no lock on, so the fighting feels like more in the lines of God of War or Heavenly Sword; not the stylish super crazy combos of DMC of the past.
The look seems well done, the graphics are sharp and textures are perfect, but graphics don't make a game. It doesn't seem like a bad game, but I can't get around the combat system. It feel so pieced together from other games, and makes you feel clumsy and off balance. Not the badass demon hunter/angel dude that you are.
Bottom Line: The game falls short of being amazing, it's stand as ok. A solid 7.5 out 10. Hopefully the main game will make for a better play.
