Metal Gear Rising Revengeance has been a long time coming. The funny thing is that it still hasn’t been released, this is just a demo. And if there is one thing that annoys me more than anything it's...OMG!! Did he just slice that guy into a hundred pieces?!
We've all seen the videos of Raiden slicing up people for what seems years and now it’s finally our turn.
The game takes place four years after the Guns of the Patriots game. Raiden has joined a peace keeping group called Maverick. While on a protection mission, Raiden runs into another cyborg who takes Raiden's left arm and eye. He receives upgrades and heads out on a new mission. This is where the demo picks up.
Before game play begins, a tutorial introduces Blade Mode which is a first-person, over-the-shoulder view where you can use your sword to cut through anything that stands your way. There are two ways to do this. First by holding the L-trigger it puts you in Blade Mode, and then by rapidly pressing the X-button it performs multiple horizontal slashes, and finally pressing the Y-button you execute vertical slashes. The second way is using the right analog stick. Using this you can perform a more precise cut to an enemy.

The first 10 seconds will keep you on your toes as three enemies attack. The sword you carry seems to be able to cut through any thing; in the middle of the fight I cut through a car and a tree that was in behind the enemies. I also went around and cut anything I could see. The slicing system seems very accurate and just plain fun!
Deeper into the demo you run across the mobile metal gears from MGS4. The first one I had no problem taking care of but the second time they had two at once. Later on you get to have a boss battle; a robot AI Wolf who is programmed to seek out cyborgs and destroy them. The fight was more challenging then I thought it would be. It was nice to see Platinum Games is not holding back on the level of difficulty.

Bottom Line: Slicing things into a hundred pieces is fun. Add the fact that it was an enemy trying to kill you and slicing becomes an addiction. The sharp, crisp audio features realistic character voices down to the shuffling of your cyborg boots walking across the ground. With such a lengthy production time I thought the graphics would be a step behind other games but no. This is one of the best looking games I've seen in a while. The demo was short but super sweet.
